Before you dive into the specific brand review, we highly recommend you to read our elaborate Gas Furnace Buying Guide in advance. There are several crucial steps you need to take before you even start to think about the brand.
How many brands of gas furnaces do you know? This is one question homeowners must ask themselves before ordering a gas furnace for their homes. Some brands are completely unknown to consumers but have some of the best heating and cooling features. The Heil gas furnace is one such brand that has done little advertising in the past ten years making it known to consumers. Heil is widely known by contractors and dealers dealing with HVAC systems. There are several reasons that make Heil a good choice for most homeowners.
Heil is owned by ICP, a company owned by Carrier, the parent company. You have probably heard of Carrier gas furnaces. I could expect these two companies to do a lot of research before they can release any of their products to the market. Heil gas furnaces have incorporated some of the latest technologies into their furnaces making them easy to run, fix and monitor. Here is a quick navigation for this guide:
Comparison of Heil Furnaces with other Brands
Comparing Heil furnaces with other manufacturers in HVAC market, there are some important factors to consider. So how does Heil compare to its competitors on a number of levels:
Heil is a mid-range brand and has more competitive prices than such premium brands as Carrier, Lennox, and Trane. Although Heil furnaces are usually 10-15 percent cheaper than these high-end manufacturers, they are still a good source of reliable performance and reasonable warranty coverage. This is what makes Heil a good choice among the homeowners who are on a tight budget and do not want to sacrifice quality.
The high-efficiency models of Heil can go as high as 96.7% AFUE that is similar to most of the top brands. Although this is just a bit less than the 98 percent AFUE provided by some of the high-end manufacturers, the difference in the actual energy savings is negligible. The Ion TM Series is the best line of Heil, which is competitive with the similar models of Goodman and Rheem in energy efficiency ratings.
Heil provides competitive warranty package which covers:
– Limited lifetime warranty on heat exchangers
– 10-year parts limited warranty
Don’t Overpay for HVAC Services – Call 888-894-0154 Now to Compare Local Quotes!
– 5-year No Hassle Replacement limited warranty on select models
This is a standard warranty coverage compared to brands such as Goodman and a little more extensive than some economy brands, but not as extensive as the premium warranties provided by Lennox or Carrier.
Although Heil might not have everything that the high-end brands have to offer, their Ion System is highly compatible with smart home technology. The brand provides: – Wi-Fi connectivity options – Multi-stage heating capabilities – Variable-speed blower motors These are similar to mid-range models of brands such as Armstrong and York, but they might not have as advanced controls as the higher-end brands.
The Heil furnaces are produced by the same parent company that produces Carrier and Bryant units, the United Technologies Corporation (UTC). This implies that they enjoy similar manufacturing process and quality control standards. Although they are well-built in general, they might not be up to the high-end construction of the best Carrier or Trane models.
Heil has a good reputation as a quality mid-range brand. Although they do not carry the same brand name as Carrier or Lennox, customer satisfaction ratings are always positive, especially when it comes to value-for-money. The brand does not usually get complaints of major issues as much as certain economy brands, but service experiences may differ depending on location and installer.
To sum up, Heil furnaces represent a good compromise between quality, efficiency, and low prices, which makes them a good competitor in the middle-range HVAC market. They might not be as feature-rich and powerful as the highest-end brands, but they are a great bargain to homeowners who want to have a good heating system without paying the high-end price.

We advise homeowners not forget to buy extended labor warranty when considering highest-end models. In most cases, the labor fee for high-end series will skyrocket.
Contractor Feedback about Heil
Finding a Heil furnace is nowadays very easy. Most people are buying them online and having a contractor install them than buying directly from a contractor. This will save you a lot of money allowing you to choose the right model and size for your home.
Most complaints on Heil are on older units. Heil is an American product built with pride. However, most problems that consumers face arise from poor installation of the unit.-Bart

A Heil furnace was recently installed in a rental townhome I live in. The previous was a Lennox Diplomat, original to the 1994 home.
The installer boasted at how this is a better furnace when in fact, they installed the cheapest, NMSL/N8MSN, in the Chicago area. According to your map, that’s recommended for a few warmer climates. Very disappointed as it is not heating a good portion of the lower level, as well as the old 1 did, though it was on it’s last leg.
I just had a new #117030 Gas Valve installed in my Heil furnace. The gas valve cost $599.13. Is this the correct suggested retail price? Price did not include installation.

In 2014 we put in a Quietcomfort VC 97 Variable-Speed Modulating Gas Furnace.
Las year we had water leaking from the furnace and I thought it was fixed.
Now, October 2020 I went down to the furnace room to find water is once again leaking from the furnace. It is 16 degrees outside and I do not want a furnace failure.
I am discouraged. Is the an install problem or a furnace defect?
We have lived in this house and have had only three furnaces. I am beginning to question the quality of this product.
