Note: Before you dive into the specific brand review, we highly recommend you to read our elaborate Gas Furnace Buying Guide in advance. There are several crucial steps you need to take before you even start to think about the brand.
York is a brand of furnace marketed by York International Corporation. Originally founded in 1874 in York, Pennsylvania, the company originally manufactured ice machines and eventually transitioned to air conditioning.
York’s lineup of gas furnaces span across four series—Affinity, LX, Latitude, and Diamond—and includes single-stage, two-stage and variable speed models, compact in size. Affinity is the companies top line of furnaces and its highest efficiency model is recognized as one of the best on the market today with an AFUE rating of up to 98%. This rating compares to the 98.3% of the top Bryant gas furnace and is one of the highest available for a gas furnace. A York gas furnace will cost more, however, but for those looking to pay for a brand on the premium side, York is as reputable and reliable as they come. Here is the quick navigation of this guide:
– ClimaTrak Comfort System
York’s patented ClimaTrak technology allows for your York dealer to customize and set the motor in your furnace to work best in your current climate. This means that your furnace will be best suited for your own home. Whether you live in a humid climate, temperate or dry environment, the ClimaTrak Comfort System will ensure your furnace’s operating cycle is tailored to your liking and meets your home’s specific needs, wherever that may be. This also means that the Affinity series furnaces can provide sufficient heating in homes located just about anywhere.
– Variable Speed Fan
Available in York’s high-efficient Affinity series is the use of an electronically commutated motor (ECM) that allows for the fan to change speeds gradually based on the heating demand. Unlike standard blower motors, the ECM works in tandem with York’s ClimaTrak Comfort System to better control humidity and keep noise to a minimum while also being incredibly energy efficient.
– Modulating Burner Design
Like the ECM variable speed fan found in the Affinity series, York’s modulating burner design allows for continuous adjustments in the level of heat you need. These small increments help to better match your level of comfort and provide the perfect temperature for your home. Highly customizable, this design means you won’t need to constantly be adjusting your temperature to in your home—it will always be just right, the way you want it.

|I like the fact that it has worked consistently well for the past four years and has very low maintenance costs. So far, I’ve only had to change the filters. The furnace also consumes very little gas and keeps the house warm. It is quiet and produces no noticeable noise. I would definitely buy the unit again and I recommend it to all my friends.|
|$2,600||Deluxe Diamond 80||MN||2700 sqft|
|I purchased the unit at quite a fair price and hired a local installation company to do the honors. Two years down the line, I can gladly say that this one was one of my best purchases. I’ve never seen anything work so well. The unit keeps the house warm during winter; it barely produces any noise and consumes little gas. After the purchase, the gas bills went down by 30%. The installation guys advised me to do an annual inspection and cleaning of the unit. I did one last year that cost less than a hundred dollars.|
|$2,200||York LX Furnace||Edmonton||2600 sqft|
|I had one installed in my son’s house and the other in our home. The installation was done by a company that has been in operation for a long period . In less than two years, both of the units had the fan motors replaced. Although people kept suggesting that the problem was in installation, I just wondered how improper installation would cause a fan to fail.|
|N/A||York, TM9V080C16MP11C, Highe Efficiency (96%), 2 stage ECM Furnace||Franz F.||2440 sqft|
|We purchased this York furnace after the previous 20+ year-old, low efficiency furnace in my home finally gave out last October, 2017. I was looking forward to replacing it with a high efficiency and more quiet model, which is why I went with the more expensive York TM9V080C16MP11C, 96%, 2 stage, variable speed (ECM) model.|
Once installed, the first problem was that it was so loud that it felt like being in the back seat of an old MD-80 jet airplane. This required adjusting down the speed of the motor as much as possible so that it was tolerable – but not quieter than the old unit I replaced. We were told that this would make it operate even more efficiently and we even replaced old return vents, and registers, plus cleaning of ducts, to try to minimize the noise, to no avail. I even replaced my thermostat with Nest model to better control the furnace settings.
After a year of use, looking at my gas usage history for the past three years, I see that the amount used has not changed at all, even though we had a very mild winter last year (Salt Lake City, UT). When looking at the weather adjusted usage, it shows a marked increase in gas consumption!
Trying to deal with York (Johnson Controls) has also been a waste of time. They offer no assistance at all and will throw the blame back on your home.
I am beyond disappointed and wish I had read reviews sooner. If you are looking for a new furnace stay away from York and Johnson Controls. Save yourself some grief.
|$2,850||Diamond 95 Ultra||CA||1350 sqft|
|I’ve not had any repairs done since the purchase, and I only need to change the filters twice every year. I recently hired a technician to take a look at the furnace and his response was that it was as good as new. I would recommend Janitrol standard gas furnaces to anyone in the market.|
|$2,000||Diamond 80||Anaheim||2900 sqft|
|I purchased the unit less than three years ago, and I’m already regretting the purchase. The unit regularly shuts off during winter. I’ve to manually turn the switch on and off for it to work again. I wouldn’t buy another Janitrol even if they were the only dealers left out there.|
