| We purchased this York furnace after the previous 20+ year-old, low efficiency furnace in my home finally gave out last October, 2017. I was looking forward to replacing it with a high efficiency and more quiet model, which is why I went with the more expensive York TM9V080C16MP11C, 96%, 2 stage, variable speed (ECM) model. Once installed, the first problem was that it was so loud that it felt like being in the back seat of an old MD-80 jet airplane. This required adjusting down the speed of the motor as much as possible so that it was tolerable – but not quieter than the old unit I replaced. We were told that this would make it operate even more efficiently and we even replaced old return vents, and registers, plus cleaning of ducts, to try to minimize the noise, to no avail. I even replaced my thermostat with Nest model to better control the furnace settings. After a year of use, looking at my gas usage history for the past three years, I see that the amount used has not changed at all, even though we had a very mild winter last year (Salt Lake City, UT). When looking at the weather adjusted usage, it shows a marked increase in gas consumption! Trying to deal with York (Johnson Controls) has also been a waste of time. They offer no assistance at all and will throw the blame back on your home. I am beyond disappointed and wish I had read reviews sooner. If you are looking for a new furnace stay away from York and Johnson Controls. Save yourself some grief. |
