Cubic Mini Wood Stove Review
Cubic Mini, located in Quebec, Canada, manufactures miniature stoves. They are portable, fuel efficient, well made, and ideal for cooking on and heating small spaces such as tiny homes, RV’s, boats, cabins, etc. The stoves will also remove the humidity from your small space, which you might or might not like.
To offset the loss of humidity, put a pan of water on the stove while heating or cooking, and it will evaporate moisture into the air.
Cubic Mini stoves are ideal for camping, the patio and other outdoor locations too.
The Cubic Mini Grizzly and the Cub are made of laser cut steel at 1/8” to 3/8” making these stoves very durable. Both stoves feature a secondary combustion system allowing them to function with very little heat loss, i.e. high efficiency, and produce less smoke because combustibles in the smoke are burned.
We have another post on best small wood stoves that discusses top mini wood stoves on the market.
Cubic Mini Advantages
Secondary Combustion System
As noted, the Grizzly and the Cub produce very little smoke due to their secondary combustion system which works by pulling air in from the secondary air intake, mixing it with gases produced by the burning wood, and reigniting it. This generates additional heat that would otherwise be lost and reduces the “smokiness” of the exhaust gases coming out of the pipe.
You can control the secondary combustion by opening and closing the slider found on the underside of the stove. It also allows for slightly longer burn times and allows you to get the most heat from the wood.
The Cubic Mini stoves are well insulated allowing them to reflect back the heat into the stove, improving the functioning of the secondary combustion system. It also helps the stove to hold the heat longer and radiate it over a longer period of time.
Installation appears fairly easy and straight forward with some basic tools. There are instructions on the website and also a number of videos available which are helpful including this one:
Very Comprehensive User-Friendly Website
We don’t often mention the manufacturer website, because most are pretty mundane.
But the Cubic Mini Stove website is loaded with useful information and videos on aspects of installing, using, and cleaning the stove. The topics can be found under the “Blog” section, as well as throughout the website. If you’re considering Grizzly or Cub stove from Cubic Mini – and definitely if you’re buying one – take time to browse the site. The information will allow you to get the most functionality from your purchase.
Some of the topics from the site that we found helpful include what to consider before choosing a mini stove, starting the fire, cleaning and managing creosote, advantages of having a wood burning mini stove in a tiny space, how to cook with the stove, how to reduce draft, safety tips, and frequently asked questions. Plenty of good information about Cubic Mini, but much of it is transferable to any stove you purchase.
Some brands are really uptight about advertising their prices. You’ve got to get them in a direct quote from one of the brand’s dealers, so they can give you the sales pitch. Not so with this manufacturer.
At the time of this review, these stoves were being offered on sale, which happens periodically. The current sale price is about 25% off the retail price. We list both prices in the review below.
Price Caveat: The MSRP and sale prices are for the bare-bones stoves. No chimney, roof boot/vent or other installation parts you might need for your application. Plan to add $150 minimum if you’re going to install your Cubic Mini wood burning stove indoors.
