When you’re in the market or a high-velocity house fan that can push a lot of air, Vornado is a brand that should be at the top of your list. The company also produces air purifiers and heaters, including a series of designer models and several systems built for nurseries. In this Vornado heater review, we are going to take a look at the company’s collection of heaters and see how they stack up against other industry leaders.

The Vornado Heater Collection

While you can browse through Vornado’s heaters on a number of sites, the company’s official website is the best resource for their current models. Tracking down the right model number can be tricky, but the company breaks things down across several different collections like whole room, infrared, and vintage. With that in mind, all of their fans fall into a few categories, which is how we’ve classified it below.

Homeowners interested in something small but powerful will want to consider Vornado’s line of personal heaters. You’ll find a mix of budget-friendly machines in this class aside from the Vornado Tempa Nursery Heater.

Vornadobaby Tempa Nursery Heater

Vornado Tempa Nursery Heater

This heater is from the Vornado Baby lineup and comes with a few extra features to keep your child safe. It has a finger-friendly design with grills small enough to keep fingers out and two settings along with an adjustable thermostat. Other features to note include a child lock switch, cool-touch housing, and a 2-stage safety shutoff to prevent overheating.

Vornado VMH10

Vornado VMH10

The next step down from a price standpoint is the Vornado VMH10, which is from the company’s Metal collection. While the shell may be metal on this slick heater, it still stays cool to the touch and leaves a small footprint behind at 7.6”H x 6”W x 5.5”D. This tabletop heater is rated at 750 watts like most of the company’s personal heaters but has a longer 5-year warranty.

The Vornado VH5 is another small personal heater with a streamlined design, two settings, and standard safety features. It’s similar to the Vornado VH202 heater when it comes to performance but is slightly larger. The Vornado VH203 personal heater is a newer version of the VH202 with a slightly different design but the same overall specifications.

Vornado Glide Vortex Heater

With Vornado’s whole room heaters, there are more options available, including models with metal shells and several heaters with interesting designs.  The Glide Heat Whole Room Heater is one such device with its wooden legs and wide base. It remains cool to the touch like their other systems but has rear-mounted controls and can tilt up to 20 degrees.

Vornado VHEAT Vintage Metal Heater

Vornado VHEAT

The Glide has a somewhat retro design but doesn’t hold a candle to the Vornado VHEAT in that regard. This heater looks like it’s straight from the 1950s but has advanced safety features built-in. It uses Vortex technology to move heated air throughout a room and has an adjustable thermostat on the back with ten settings. The heater also pivots 47 degrees.

Vornado VH2 heaters

Vornado VH2 heaters

If you prefer a heater that’s a smaller and more modern, the Vornado PVH Vortex heater is an entry-level option in this class. It has two standard settings with a flat front and is rated for rooms up to 150 square feet, like most of the company’s whole room fans. The Vornado VH10 and Vornado VH2 heaters are both rated at 1,500 watts with two settings as well. Both have a similar design, but the VH2 has a separate button for the fan speed, and the VH10 has eight thermostat settings compared to seven on the VH2.

Vornado Velocity 3R Whole Room Space Heater

Velocity 3R heater

Alternatively, the Vornado VH200 whole room heater is a fan-forced system that has three settings with high, medium, and low. It has a thermostat with seven settings like the Vornado VH2 but is one of the company's newest models as part of their 2020 lineup. The Velocity 3R heater is another new heater and completely different from their other systems we’ve covered thus far.

This heater is a “velocity-tuned” system with a digital display and an adjustable thermostat. While fan-based, it has three settings at 750, 1,125, and 1,500 watts. It’s rated to handle rooms up to 250 square feet as well, whereas most of their other whole room heaters are listed at between 75 to 150 square feet. Other features of interest include an internal heat monitor, a 9-hour timer, and touch-sensitive controls.

The last two heaters in this collection have a similar design but heat a room in entirely different ways. The Vornado IR405 is one of the company’s only infrared heaters. It’s designed to not take up any space, stays cool to the touch, and is a dual-zone system. This allows you to circulate heat throughout a room or focus it on an area for personal heating. It only has two speeds but has a digital display and thermostat.

Vornado VMH300 Whole Room Metal Heater

Vornado VMH300

While the Vornado VMH300 is just as boxy as the IR405, it’s a metal unit with a built-in handle and integrated cord storage. The controls are mechanical, not digital, but allow you to adjust the temperature to suit your needs.

The heaters from the Vornado whole house lineup aren’t exactly cheap, but all are a step below their units from the Auto Climate collection. Several of these systems will look familiar as they are variants of their whole room heaters, with a few extra bells & whistles.

Vornado AVH2

Vornado AVH2

The base model for this class is the Vornado AVH2, which is billed as an advanced whole room heater. Like the other heaters in this collection, this system is designed to regulate the thermostat, conserving energy. It has a digital adjustable thermostat on top, push buttons, and supports two speeds. It’s also made in the USA, just like its twin, the VH2.

There are only a few cosmetic changes between the AVH2 and the Vornado AVH10. The specifications remain the same, but there is an LCD display on the top, a bright power light on the front, and integrated cord storage on the bottom. Both of those units are quite capable but not as impressive as the TAVH10.

Vornado’s TAVH10

Vornado’s TAVH10

Vornado’s TAVH10 has a large digital display on the top, which is surrounded by touch-sensitive buttons. It still has the power light on the front but comes with a remote control and has a 12-hour timer. Simply put, it’s essentially the premium version of the AVH10 with a better display and remote control.

All three of these whole room fans have a similar vibe in the design department, whereas the VMH500 and VMH600 are from the metal series. Remember the VMH300 metal heater? Well, the Vornado VMH500 is a dead ringer for that system, but with three significant differences.

Vornado VMH600

Vornado VMH600

It comes with a remote control and a 12-hour timer but also has a small display and controls embedded into the handle. The power button has been moved to the top, and there’s a circular display on the front as well. The Vornado VMH600 is the exact same heater with the addition of an Energy Sync feature and a sleek Stainless Steel housing.

Vornado Tower Heaters

Vornado is known for their tower fans, so it’s only natural that they have a few tower heaters in their collection as well. At this time, the company has three with two full-sized models and the diminutive but powerful Vornado SRTH small tower fan.

Vornado SRTH Small Room Tower Heater

Vornado SRTH small tower fan

While not typically designed for desktops, the Vornado SRTH is small enough to comfortably sit on one as it's only 12.5” high and around 6” in diameter. This convection-based heater is ideal for areas up to 90 square feet and has two settings with an adjustable thermostat. It tops out at 900 watts on high and has the company’s standard set of safety features like tip-over protection.

Vornado ATH1

Vornado ATH1

If you want a heater that’s a bit taller and looks like one of the company’s traditional tower fans, the Vornado ATH1 is an excellent option. This slender system is rated at 1,500 watts on high and makes use of the company’s unique V-Flow circulation to disperse warm air even through an area. Other features to note include an LCD display, touch controls, automatic climate control, and a programmable thermostat.

The ATH1 is designed so that it doesn’t have to oscillate to distribute air throughout a room. Well, the Vornado OSCTH1 can oscillate up to 80 degrees and has a futuristic design that sets it apart from the pack. Illuminated touch controls, an adjustable thermostat, and a 12-hour timer are also included on this heater.

Vornado Heater Features

At this time, Vornado doesn’t have any “connected” heaters in their lineup. That means the most high-tech or flagship feature comes in the form of Auto Climate, which is featured on around a half-dozen heaters. You won’t find much mobility in their lineup, either considering they only have two tilting models and one that oscillates.

Timers are found on a handful of room heaters from Vornado, and most of their systems have two speeds or settings as well. Digital controls and touch-sensitive systems are also an option on their premium class heaters. While they don’t have any more bells & whistles than the competition, Vornado focused on safety and design.

Accidentally touching the grill of a hot heater has sent many children to the ER over the years, but that won’t be a problem with Vornado’s cool touch system. The front and sides of these heaters will stay cool to the touch and have grills designed to keep small fingers out. Other safety features from the company include tip-over switches and multi-stage protection to keep their units from overheating.

Vornado Heater Reviews

In our Vornado humidifier reviews, we found plenty of complaints that involved everything from pricing to quality control. Well, things are much more positive with the company’s heater collection as most of these systems are well-received by consumers… with a few exceptions.

Heaters from their whole room collection seem to have more favorable reviews, although there are more than a few negatives with their metal-clad versions. The retro-themed Vornado Vheat, the AVH10, and the Tempa Nursery heater are among their most highly rated units.

Alternatively, consumers weren’t so pleased with their cheaper systems and heaters from the personal range. Some of the complaints can be chalked up to the price, while others appear to be related to quality control. Given the warranties on most of their systems, the latter shouldn’t be a major concern.

Vornado Heater Warranties

Vornado’s warranty process is easy to understand as all of their heaters have a 5-year guarantee outside of the ones from personal collection. Those are warrantied for 3 years, which is longer than you’ll get from most companies' small heater lines. While they have great customer service and solid warranties, things are a little different if you want to work on the unit yourself.

Personal and room heaters aren’t necessarily something most people work on, but it’s nice to know you can pick up replacement parts if needed. Vornado does not carry or sell any spare parts on their website, although we were able to find some random parts through third-party sellers.

Vornado Heater Pricing and Availability

As Vornado is a bigger brand with a well-known name, you won’t have any problem finding their products anywhere in the U.S. Local hardware stores like Lowes and Home Depot carry their products along with retailers like Target, Walmart, Costco, and Best Buy.

With pricing, we found that Vornado’s larger heaters are priced at a premium compared to similar brands. Their personal heaters are more budget-friendly, however. The company does have some models around or a bit under $50, but most are well above that price point.

Vornado Heater Pros and Cons

When it comes to the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing a Vornado heater, it all depends on what you’re looking for out of a heater for the most part. Their heaters set themselves apart in several ways but may fall flat in other areas with some consumers.

Vornado Heater Pros

Vornado features more varied designs across their collection than most companies, aside from their Vortex systems, which all have the same vibe. It was nice to see metal-clad heaters with a modern design as well, along with their unique and well-rated Vornado OSCH1.

The warranties are an obvious perk as well, especially on the whole room heaters. Overall, they have a solid selection of efficient heaters that would look good in any home.

Vornado Heater Cons

While Vornado doesn’t make the most expensive heaters, some of their units are slightly pricey compared to similar brands. We also noticed more quality control issues than usual, even if they mainly revolve around a few styles of heaters.

Vornado Heater FAQ

Q: How do I reset a heater from Vornado?

A: If the safety shut-off system is triggered, you can reset your heater in a few quick steps. Turn off and unplug the unit from the power outlet, then check and make sure no obstructions are blocking the heater. Wait 5 to 10 minutes or until the unit becomes cool, then plug the heater back in and turn it on.

Q: Are repairs free on Vornado heaters if a problem occurs within the warranty period?

A: Yes. As long as you contact the company and provide the information they need, they will fix defects with the product free of charge.

Q: What should I do if my Vornado heater won’t power on through any electrical outlet?

A: Make sure the heater is on a flat, level surface, and that the tip-over switch hasn’t been activated. If that isn’t the problem and resetting your heater doesn’t work, you’ll want to contact the company’s customer service department.

Q: Can I take apart a heater from Vornado to clean it?

A: No, and doing so can void the warranty or damage the product. The company recommends using a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment for the grill and canned air to remove dust from inside the heater. Always make sure the heater is unplugged before cleaning it.

Q: Why is my heater continually shutting on and off?

A: There are a few reasons this could happen, so the first thing we advise you to do is try a different power outlet. If that doesn’t work, there could be an issue with the safety shut-off system, and you should contact Vornado before using the heater again.

Q: How much clearance is required for proper air circulation with a Vornado tower heater?

A: You need to keep the heater at least 6” from walls, curtains, or other objects that may impede airflow.
