LG is a Fortune 500 company with headquarters in South Korea. The company manufactures an enormous range of appliances including mini split heat pump and air conditioning systems that rival market leaders like Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Daikin, Gree, Samsung and Pioneer.

We’ve produced mini split buying guides for those brands. This guide covers the LG mini split systems including pros and cons, top models and features, prices and more. Our goal is to provide the information you need to research your next ductless system – one you’ll be happy with in the years to come.

Top LG Mini Split Features

All the mini split brand buying guides on this site have a features section. They allow you to quickly consider which of the brands has the unique features you find attractive. Here’s what stands out about LG.

LG’s single-zone systems are sold complete – the outdoor unit and indoor unit – rather than ala carte from which you can pick and choose. Wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted and ducted systems are produced.

The Ducted Mini Split systems are a recent trend, and LG is on the forefront. These are not traditional ducted systems carrying air from the outdoor unit through ducts. It simply means that the indoor unit is housed in existing ductwork very near the vent. The one advantage of ducted mini split systems is that the indoor unit is out of site.

The LG Wall Mounted Extended Piping systems allow the indoor unit to be installed at a greater distance (up to 164 feet) from the outdoor unit and at a greater height (98 feet), well beyond the range of about 65 feet away and 40 feet up for most systems. These systems are WiFi-enabled, which is necessary due to the potential distance between components – too far for a remote signal and too difficult to wire.

Indoor units aren’t always attractive, so LG has introduced the Art Cool Premier and Art Cool Mirror wall-mounted units with stylish good looks. Their air handling performance is outstanding too.

The LG HSV5 High-Efficiency Series delivers 100% of heating capacity to -4F. While there are a few that maintain efficiency to colder temperatures, this is impressive. This series offers 100% capacity cooling to 118F.

The LG zoned Multi V S is the only single-phase VRF (variable-refrigerant flow) system available.  This allows it to provide maximum heating and cooling using less energy. The Multi V S system outdoor units range in capacity from 24,000 (2 ton) to 60,000 (5 ton) heating and air conditioning. Full heating capacity is possible to 122F.

LG Mini Split HVAC Cons

LG makes good-quality products with one minor drawback: The most efficient systems, the HYV1 and HYV2 wall-mounted systems, have a maximum rating of just 27.5 SEER and 12 HSPF. That’s good, but there are systems available that are significantly more efficient.

Greer, Fujitsu, Daikin, Mitsubishi and other leading brands make models from the upper-20s SEER to 38 SEER (Fujitsu & Greer).

Of course, the more efficient systems have a higher price tag. If your summers or winters are extreme, paying more for better efficiency is good value over the life of the system. Where summer and winter temperatures aren’t extreme, an LG system will be sufficient.

Maximum efficiency is achieved with the HYV1 and HYV2 single-zone outdoor units in a good range of capacities from 9K to 24K. These work with the attractive Art Cool Premier indoor units with sleek design in glacier white cabinets. This is the recommended series for climates with extremely hot weather.

If you choose one of the single-zone HSV Series units, you have your choice of the standard High Efficiency indoor unit or the much more stylish Mirror Cool components with their polished exterior. Mirror Cool looks fantastic in homes with contemporary design, and it is a popular indoor unit series in commercial settings.

Large homes and office suites are best served by the multi-zone Multi V S heat pumps that use variable-refrigerant flow technology. This allows the unit to precisely heat and cool each zone separately by controlling the flow of refrigerant, and therefore the flow of heat to or from it. The Multi V S system is compatible with a full range of indoor units including floor units plus wall, ceiling and ducted air handlers.

The Multi F Series is made in four separate options: Standard and Max capacities with and without LGRED. The LGRED technology enables the system to provide 100% heating in outdoor temperatures to -13F compared with -4F for the systems without LGRED.

If you don’t like the looks of indoor units taking up floor or wall space, consider the LG Ducted systems. As noted above, the indoor unit is installed inside existing ductwork, so it is out of site. The system carries power, refrigerant and the drain from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit as it does with a duct-free system. The High Static ducted system is designed for installation in a ceiling duct in a single zone. The Low Static indoor units can be used in multizone configurations.

LG Mini Split Worth A Try?

LG units are from a Korean company which is not as good as Japan’s ones like Mitsubishi and Fujitsu. But they are more affordable and still reliable in most cases. If you want to seek the highest efficient and extremely quality ductless heat pump, Mitsubishi should be your first choice. The price of Mitsubishi is nearly twice as expensive as the LG ones. In conclusion, LG is one of the top 4 mini split heat pump manufacturers and if you can find a qualified LG contractor, it,s a good choice.

Submitted LG Mini Split Prices and Reviews

Here are the homeowners’ submitted prices and feedback for new installation and replacement. We will update this table every 3-6 months.

Brand & Model & Size
Home Location
$7,700 (4 rooms) LS 180HEV Irvine, CA 17,000 BTU
It is 12 months now since I bought this unit and I have to say I am more than satisfied with it. With its higher air circulation rates, sometimes as much as 547 cubic feet per minute, heating and cooling my almost 1,000 square feet of my home’s floor space is nothing more than child’s play. Heat spreads through the entire house fast, just as cooling is almost instant. You wouldn’t even realize the presence of the machine in the house as it operates with minimal noise.
$3,700 (2 rooms) LS090HXV Annapolis, MD 11,200 BTU
I have been using this unit for the last 14 months and would be hard pressed to give it a glowing tribute. Though it performs a great job in heating up my home, I have to contend with the constant whirring sound in the background. I wouldn’t have a problem with the sound except that my 6 month-old baby who is finding it increasingly difficult to sleep. Nevertheless, I still give it a thumbs-up for the good job of keeping the room warm.
$2,700 LMN127HVT N/A 12,000 BTU
No other heat pump has been able to give my family the peace and comfort to enjoy the environment of the home like the LMN127HVT from LG. With its massive 12,000BTU power, it is much more than just a heater as it purifies air as well. When winter comes calling and we have to worry about electricity bills, it is never an issue with this heat pump. It is mounted safely out of reach of children on the wall and its presence would never be felt save for the constant breeze of fresh air.
$5,700 (3 rooms) N/A Augusta, ME 18,000 BTU
This thing is a total rip-off! It is not unlike LG, a company with a reputation to uphold, to pass off this sorry excuse of a machine for a useful device. I am totally disappointed and have a strong feeling that my $1,000 ought to be refunded. I got the heater 10 months ago and it rarely performs its job: too much noise and excessive heating when operational, and completely silent and inactive when you need it most. It is a complete turn-off.
$5,700 (3 rooms) LG LA120HSV2 Baton Rouge, LA 11,200 BTU
This is just what I needed. With a floor space of 650 square feet, I needed a machine that would pump heat throughout the room in minimal time and cool it just as quickly. I never have to worry about sudden temperature changes when I am asleep ever since a bought this heater from LG 15 months ago. I never had to replace any part within this time and absolutely no interruptions. Keep up the good job, LG.
$1,465.00 (installed) LG LA120 HVP N/A N/A
With a BTU heating and cooling of 13,300 and 11,200 respectively, I must say this is a machine of a kind. Though not the most sophisticated in its lineage, cooling and heating my home has never been a challenge since I acquired it 14 months ago.Suffice to say, it gets the job done although there is a little whirring sound when you turn it on but that soon disappears as it settles down to work. It is over a year now and I haven’t had to replace any of its parts.
