Aprilaire humidifiers are designed for large areas and have more of an industrial style than a traditional humidifier built for living areas. In other words, you won’t find any small systems or tabletop humidifiers from the company, and they don’t make any ultrasonic machines.

Aprilaire Evaporative Humidifiers

The Aprilaire 350 humidifier is a self-contained system that connects to your ductwork to ensure total coverage throughout homes up to 4,500 square feet. Engineered to work with baseboard or radiator-based heating systems, this humidifier has a rate of 0.50 gallons per hour or roughly 12 gallons per day.

The 350 is efficient, but the Aprilaire 360 humidifier has similar specifications and is installed through a wall instead of being hung in a basement.  Both of these self-contained systems require power, hot water, and drain to function. They also come with a control panel for the system that will need to be installed somewhere in your home.

If you’re interested in a more traditional whole-house system that works in conjunction with your furnace, the Aprilaire 400 large capacity humidifier is an excellent option from the company. This system has a coverage range of up to 4,000 square feet under optimum conditions. The output is rated at 17 gallons per day, and the humidifier is designed to conserve water.

Aprilaire engineered this humidifier so that it doesn’t need a drain thanks to the company’s unique water panel. It uses 100% of the water with no waste and only needs to be replaced twice per year.  There are two similar systems from the company in this range as well, with the Aprilaire 500 and Aprilaire 600, although both require a floor drain.

Aprilaire 500

Aprilaire 500

The Aprilaire 500 Small Bypass Humidifier that can handle rooms up to 3,000 square feet. It’s capable of producing 12 gallons of moisture each day. While it can’t reduce water consumption, it does have a built-in drain to help with mineral buildup and is incredibly easy to use. The Aprilaire 600 is another whole house system with a similar design, but a larger output rating of 17 gallons per day.

Aprilaire 700

When it comes to larger evaporative humidifiers, the Aprilaire 700 Whole House Humidifier is the company’s top option. It has a rating of 18 gallons per day and is geared towards areas up to 4,200 square feet. The biggest difference aside from capacity with this system and the 300 to 600 series humidifiers is the fact the Aprilaire 700 has a built-in fan.

Aprilaire Steam Humidifiers

Aprilaire 800

Aprilaire 800

Aprilaire currently has two steam humidifiers in their lineup. While the 800 and 865 may look the same, there are some significant differences between these two systems, which makes the Aprilaire 800 Whole House Steam Humidifier the company’s entry-level steam humidifier.

This canister-based system is a standalone unit that works independently of your central HVAC system. That helps make it an excellent choice for tight spaces, but how much moisture this system produces depends on the electrical draw. The capacity ranges from 11.5 to 34.6 gallons per day on this humidifier.

The Aprilaire 801 Whole House Humidifier has the same range but is a modular system that allows it to provide more accuracy over the humidity levels in your home. Both units have an array of features not found on their evaporative systems, including a digital control panel, automatic drain cycles, and drain water tempering.

Aprilaire Humidifier Features

Because of the design behind Aprilaire’s humidifiers, you aren’t going to find many bells & whistles on their machines. Most of their systems give you the option of purchasing a digital or manual control, however, which helps extend the capabilities of their systems.

As for those features, there are water panel change indicators that let you know when your panel needs to be changed, but that’s it unless you purchase a steam humidifier. These units have digital control panels that can show certain diagnostics about the machine.

Aprilaire Humidifier Reviews

While you’ll find thousands of verified reviews for humidifiers from brands like Honeywell, Dyson, and AirCare, there aren’t nearly as many consumer reviews for Aprilaire humidifiers. That’s due in part to their industrial design, and the fact they aren’t necessarily something you’ll find through traditional outlets online.

With that in mind, Aprilaire humidifier reviews are positive across a number of retailers. Consumers that shop through Amazon have left the company excellent reviews, and we couldn’t find anything rated lower than a 4 out of 5. Those reviews touched on reliability, ease of use, and pricing. Reviews through specialty stores and dealers are largely positive as well, despite a few complaints in regards to features.

Aprilaire Humidifier Warranties and Replacement Parts

When you buy a humidifier from Aprilaire, you’ll get a 5-year guarantee out of the box. That’s impressive and on par with Vornado and a select few manufacturers that offer warranties longer than 2 years. The company has excellent customer service, but professional installation is required on many of their units if you want to take full advantage of your warranty.

Replacement parts can be difficult to come by with some companies humidifiers, although that isn’t the case with Aprilaire. The company has a number of parts for their systems available through their website. While the selection is mixed, you can find things like float covers, feed tubes, orifices, drain spuds, and water distribution trays.

Aprilaire Humidifier Pricing and Availability

Humidifiers made to deal with large areas can run anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands. It largely depends on the size of the system, the features, and parts inside, but branding can play a role in things as well.

Compared to similar brands, Aprilaire’s humidifiers are priced competitively. While they don’t have anything cheap or for small areas, their systems offer great value for the money. That’s especially true when you consider the build quality and warranty. Availability is a different story, however.

Unlike other humidifier manufacturers, you can’t pick up a system from Aprilaire in your local hardware store. They are not available online or locally through the usual retailers like Home Depot, Lowes, or Walmart. You can purchase an Aprilaire humidifier through Amazon or Sylvane online, along with a few other select retailers. Locally, you’ll want to look for licensed HVAC retailers that carry the Aprilaire brand.

Pros and Cons of Aprilaire Humidifiers

There are no major cons or disadvantages to buying an Aprilaire humidifier – as long as you need a whole house system. There are similar whole-house systems that have more features or better price points, but they usually have shorter warranties or mediocre reviews. The company’s humidifiers are just as well-received and are also built to last.

If there’s one drawback to their humidifiers, it’s the fact that most homeowners will probably want to call in a professional. That will raise the overall cost, and it could be significant depending on where you live and your HVAC system. Warranty provisions aside, these types of humidifiers need proper installation to achieve maximum efficiency

Aprilaire Humidifier FAQ

Q: What does humidifier output mean?

A: Humidifier output refers to how much moisture a system can produce in a day. It’s an important number when considering the room size, but a specification that can be challenging to find with some manufacturers.

Q: How often should I change the water in my humidifier?

A: After each use. Letting old water sit in a humidifier increased the chance of spreading viruses and bacteria when you turn it back on.
