You’ll find the comprehensive information needed to decide if Lennox is the brand you want and which model will best serve your home. The US Climate chart below will ensure you select a Lennox furnace that produces cost-effective heating where you live.
Lennox makes ten gas furnaces in three series:
- Basic – Lennox Merit Series furnaces (ML): Single-stage furnaces with 80% and 90%-plus efficiencies
- Better – Lennox Elite Series furnaces (EL): Single-stage and two-stage furnaces with 80% models and 90%-plus models
- Best – Dave Lennox Signature Collection furnaces (SL): Two-stage and modulating furnaces with 80% AFUE models and furnaces up to 98.7% AFUE, currently the most efficient gas furnace made
Lennox gas furnace prices for all models are listed in below list, so you’ll have a good idea of what to expect before you call dealers to get estimates. Now let’s get started! You can check a quick content navigation below:
5 Lennox’s Exclusive Features
This is the necessary function for highest efficient(97%-98%) gas furnaces. Modulating is the key to obtaining beyond 95% efficiency. We recommend this function for those of you who plan on living in your home for a long time in winter. For more details, you can read our previous article: Modulating Furnaces: Are They Worth the Money?
Duralok Plus Heat Exchanger
A heat exchanger is the most important component of any gas furnace. Lennox has installed a Duralok Plus heat exchanger that is made of ArmorTuf steel. The ArmorTuf steel is patented and offers energy efficiencies and reliability. You can find a lot of positive feedback for this heat exchanger online.
Most Efficient Gas Furnace (SLP98V) 98.7 AFUE
The Lennox Signature Collection SLP98V gas furnace achieves a best-in-class 98.7% annualized fuel efficiency (AFUE); just 2.3% of the heat produced is lost with the combustion gas exhaust.
This Lennox gas furnace is built with primary and secondary heat exchangers and condensing technology to capture and transfer more heat than any other gas furnace available today. This superior efficiency level is also achieved in the SLP98V with a modulating gas valve that, like cruise control, runs at the optimal level needed to keep temperatures perfectly balanced without overheating. The variable-speed blower contributes to efficiency by effectively utilizing the heat produced and transferred, never blowing unheated air at the beginning or end of the cycle.
This is another feature that makes the unit very reliable and durable. Lennox claims the Silicon nitride construction ensures the product lasts for years without regular breakdowns. This might be true, but almost all brands claim their units are reliable and strong.

SunSource Solar Modules
Imagine heating and cooling your home with a heat pump and having zero energy cost and using no fossil fuel! That’s possible with the Lennox SunSource solar home energy system. SunSource uses 3’x6’ solar modules to capture solar energy and deliver it to a Lennox heat pump or central AC equipped with solar-ready technology. Leftover energy can be used for your home’s electronics and small appliances. The Lennox SunSource system adds $8,000 to $20,000 to HVAC equipment costs depending on the number of panels used, but when savings are considered, it might be worth the investment if your home is in a sunny climate or if green heating and cooling is a top priority for you. Plus, the Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit is still in effect. It allows you to take a 30 percent tax credit on the cost of a solar system. That’s one more reason to consider going solar!

Note for the short-term house:
Lennox is one of the premium brands with higher initial cost. If you have the plan of moving house in less than 5 years, we recommend installing some quality but low-end level brands like Payne, Ruud or Armstrong. Looking for more budget brands? You can check our gas furnace brands guide.
Contractor Reviews For Lennox
Specific contractor reviews on gas furnaces are very rare due to the wide array of gas furnace models in the market. It is difficult to review all models on reliability and efficiency as most brands will work for years without a problem. BUT we just interviewed Kobie who is the after-sale manager who has 20+ years experience for Lennox, Goodman and Heil furnaces.
I have worked in the commercial and residential HVAC field for many years, and I know that a significant percentage of furnaces failures are as a result of poor installation and very cheap units. The Lennox Merit series has proven to be a piece built on high quality and reasonable price. I have installed this model for my cousin for eight years, and had any major failures. The Lennox gas furnace might not beat the Goodman, the Carrier or the Heil in the price but can do an excellent job of heating and cooling your home. Some consumers have reported the Lennox gas furnaces breaking down almost every year during the winter season. This might be true, but most breakdowns are associated with the poor installation of the units.

Note For Lennox Furnace Parts
It is worth noting that all Lennox’s parts are proprietary. The parts are three times as expensive as other parts which you can easily find in the market. So if you choose Lennox Furnace, we strongly recommend you purchase the extended warranty with the labor fee included.

80% efficiency, this was a builder's home and is insulated extremely well. Vents straight up through the center of the house. Would have to tear open basement ceiling to vent out the side. Cement front porch and bay window makes venting out the front not possible. Told a higher efficiency blower motor will up the efficiency. A/C EL16xc1-041 42000 btu 16 seer

After getting 5 quotes, I was ready to make a decision. Most important to me was the reputation of the contractor, the warranty for the equipment and the price. Ultimately, I put more emphasis on the first two items and went with my gut. RighTime (ARS), a Costco vendor, one the bid. Their price was a tad bit higher but I weighed the importance of the installation and the company backing it to make a decision.
Lennox XC25 AC and SL280v Furnace$15,489Atlanta, GA2,000 sqft
We had a new 3 ton Lennox XC25/SL280V installed this month and it has been fantastic!!!!! We had a company come out and install the first XC25 for $10,891 and it failed right away so we had that company refund us our money and called a more reputable national company. Even though they were more expensive they did a lot more work (UV, new copper line, filtration, plenums and added a return) couldn’t be happier with our decision!

I bought Dave Lennox Elite G60 series last year after my mum suggested that I try this brand. My unit runs perfectly from the first day and no repairs or replacements so far. The warranty is excellent. The furnace warms the house evenly, and my gas bill has gone down during the time I have had this furnace.
Lennox ML 193$6190Beverly MA1400 sq ft
After numerous research for the best gas furnace regarding price and performance finally settled for this model. I met a contractor who took me through all the specifications of this model and then installed the unit for me. My experience with Lennox has been great, and I would buy this brand again and again. I have had my f for five years now, and no single repair plus the unit runs quietly that you cannot notice whether it’s functioning or not. You know what he was right; I haven’t had a problem with mine for years.
- Firstly, keep in mind that installation quality is always the most important thing for a gas furnace project. So never sacrifice contractor quality for lower price.
- Secondly, remember to look up the latest tax credit and rebates.
- Thirdly, ask for at least 3 bids before you make the decision. You can click here to get 3 free estimates for your local contractor, and this estimate already takes rebates and tax credit into consideration and filter unqualified contractors automatically.
