About Daikin

Daikin:

Makes a complete range of 80% AFUE and 90% - 98% AFUE furnaces

Offers some of the best warranties in the industry, including lifetime heat exchanger warranty and a 12-year furnace replacement warranty on top models (more below)

Makes 1-stage, 2-stage and variable capacity furnaces to give you a full range of performance and budget choices

Daikin is a major player in the global HVAC industry, making some of the highest rated ductless heat pump systems. In 2012, Daikin bought the Goodman Manufacturing Company and acquired the highly popular Goodman brand plus Amana, which Goodman owned.

Daikin set about updating and improving the quality of Goodman and Amana while also introducing Daikin branded residential furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps and more.

Daikin Gas Furnace Features

Here are important performance features of some or all Daikin furnaces.

Three Performance Levels

Like all top brands, Daikin makes three tiers of furnaces:

  • Single-stage, or 1-stage, furnaces operate at 100% capacity all the time. The two Daikin 92% furnaces and two of the 80% furnaces are single-stage models. They cost less, but the tradeoff is indoor climate control that isn’t as precise.
  • Two-stage / 2-stage models are a popular combination of reasonable cost and better temperature and humidity control. Daikin makes 10 2-stage furnaces, so they’re the most common type. The first stage is about 65% of capacity, while the second stage is, of course, 100%.
  • Variable capacity Daikin furnaces run at capacities from 35% to 100%, modulating in very small increments. While the most expensive, they create the most comfortable homes with heating precision and a variable speed blower.

ECM Motors – Most are Variable Speed

The top three 80% furnaces and the top four 90%-plus  furnaces have electronically commutated motors (ECM) that are quieter and use about 40% less electricity than PSC motors. The Daikin models with ECM motors cost more, but you’ll be “paid back” over time in cold climates where the furnace runs during 6 or so months of the year.

Six of the seven ECM models are variable speed. This means they start slow, so “blasts” of unheated air aren’t pushed into your living space. If the furnace is running on a low capacity, the furnace motor will match it. When the furnace runs at full capacity, the motor ramps up for optimal air distribution.

Outstanding Heat Exchangers

All Daikin gas furnaces are equipped with a heat exchanger that is constructed from tubular stainless steel that uses wrinkle bend technology to make it one of the strongest and most durable on the market.

The 90%-plus models are condensing furnaces. This means the exhaust gases are cool enough to condense moisture onto the heat exchanger. That’s a good thing – it means the furnace is very efficient and not wasting much heat at all. However, that condensation is acidic, so the heat exchanger must be stainless steel to prevent corrosion.

For these reasons, Daikin offers Lifetime warranties on primary and secondary heat exchangers.

Energy Star Certified Furnaces

Five Daikin gas furnaces meet Energy Star criteria with efficiency levels from 96% to 98%. In fact, the Daikin DM97MC and DC97MC with ComfortNet Control make Energy Star’s Most Efficient Furnaces of 2020 list.

Energy Star Certified Furnaces

ComfortNet Compatible

This is Daikin’s communicating system and WiFi system. It’s available on the top two 80% models and the top four 90%+ models. Daikin says, “If you seek ultimate home comfort, ComfortNet offers advanced diagnostics, automatic maintenance alerts, continuous monitoring of your system’s performance and even remote monitoring and control options.” If you like smart technology, ComfortNet is worth a look.

Great Warranties

Warranties are becoming a much more competitive part of the residential HVAC industry, and Daikin’s are among the best. They include:

  • 12-year general parts warranties, which are longer than the industry average of 10 years
  • Lifetime heat exchanger warranties – which is the norm for top furnace brands and models
  • 12-year and 6-year unit replacement warranties. If a heat exchanger fails under this warranty, Daikin will replace the entire furnace, not just the part.

Caution: If you want to make sure your warranty remains in effect, there is one thing to do and one thing to avoid.

  • DO: Have your furnace cleaned and maintained yearly. Daikin says, “Additional requirements for annual maintenance are required for the Unit Replacement Limited Warranty.” In short, if you don’t keep your furnace maintained, Daikin isn’t obligated to honor a warranty claim.
  • DO NOT: Don’t buy a Daikin furnace online or from anyone other than a Daikin dealer. Daikin says, “Electronic Purchase of HVAC Systems not covered by written warranties.”

This “do and do not” are common in the industry. Goodman is about the only large brand that allows electronic purchase to be warranty-covered.

Note 1: All Daikin furnaces are backed by a Lifetime heat exchanger warranty and a 12-year general parts warranty.

This column shows whether the unit has a unit replacement warranty on the heat exchanger and how long it is. Heat exchanger replacement is a long task. Our Furnace Repair Guide pegs its cost at $800-$1,500, and that’s probably a little on the low side. And guess what? Most HVAC warranties do not cover labor – and most of the cost of heat exchanger replacement is labor.

Instead, if your furnace is diagnosed with a cracked heat exchanger, their most common failure, Daikin will replace the entire furnace.

The Right Daikin Furnace for Your Climate

What is the most cost-effective furnace for where you live?

In other words, if you buy the most efficient (and expensive) Daikin furnace but live in Phoenix, you’ll never recoup the high cost through lower heating bills.

Conversely, if you live in Duluth and buy an 80% furnace (you can’t actually due that – furnaces must be at least 90% in northern climates – but for the sake of the argument), your heating bills would be so high, you’d soon waste all your savings from buying a less expensive furnace.

Here’s the map. Below is a chart showing Daikin furnace recommendations for each climate.

Daikin Gas Furnace Prices by Model

These are average prices for each model. The varying price ranges are due to the size furnaces made in each. For example, the 80% furnaces range from just 60,000 to 100,000 BTU models to those produced in 40,000 to 140,000 BTUs.

Therefore, we chose the 80,000 BTU models in each furnace to use for pricing. Larger furnaces cost more; smaller furnaces cost less.

Daikin Furnace Prices by Size

Our last Daikin gas furnace prices chart shows cost ranges for the sizes available.

140K BTUs2,300 - 3,000 sf$3,450 - $4,500
There is overlap in home sizes due to climate factors.

If you live in a warmer climate and an 80% furnace makes sense, then your cost will be on the lower end.

In moderate and cold climates where you’ll want a 90% or higher furnace, cost will be more.

Within each cost range, you have options for 1-stage or 2-stage (warmer climates) or 1-stage, 2-stage and variable capacity furnaces in cool to cold climates.

I have had a Daikin furnace for four years now. I’ve always taken care of the furnace by having it checked and maintained annually. I also replace the filters after every eight weeks. The furnace has never failed and is always reliable even at the worst weather. My current technician tells me that the installers did a good job. The noise level is barely noticeable. I would recommend the Daikins Furnace to everyone.
$2,300 DC96HS Solon, Ohio 2500 sqft
My husband and I moved into our new home 2 years ago, but as soon as we settled, the furnace broke. We called a technician who advised that we should purchase a new furnace since the old one would continue giving us problems. He suggested that we go for Daikin and it has been a perfect choice. Sometimes, the warmth in the house is the only indication that it’s on. It keeps our home cozy and warm in just a short time even in the cold Wisconsin winters. We have not had any problems with the Daikin furnace so far. I would gladly buy it over and over again.
$2,830 DM96VC New York 2200 sqft
I recently purchased the Daikin Furnace and fell in love with it. It has cost me nothing more than the eighty dollars I pay for the annual checkup. It has cut my gas bills by over 50%. I don’t even turn off the furnace during winter. I know that the furnace is great and I guess that the problems people are experiencing are due to poor maintenance. I would recommend Daikin to everyone out there.
$3,100 DM97MC Calgary, AB 3200 sqft
The Daikin furnace that I replaced had served our family efficiently for twenty five years until it broke down three years ago. I immediately replaced it with a newer model of Daikin. As always, it has low maintenance needs; all that is required is for me to change the filters at least three times a year. I have never had to repair the Daikin, but it still runs smoothly. If I were to make a furnace purchase again, I would still purchase this unit.
$2,350 DC96HS Zionsville, IN 1850 sqft
I have had this furnace since 2013. I like that it is efficient and quiet. It effectively heats up the house in a short time. I have never had any problems with this furnace and would gladly recommend it to a friend.
$2,200 DC96HS New York 2500 sqft
I have a Daikin Furnace that is only four years old. If I were to do it again, I wouldn’t have replaced the 25-year-old that I was using before. The unit has been a constant source of trouble ever since day one. Many are the mornings my family and I have woken up to a freezing house. I have had it repaired at least once. A Daikin unit simply isn’t worth the money.

  1. We bought both a Daikin furnace and air conditioner. WithOUT a doubt, it was the best product, warranty and overall value. There were brands that would cost more and had less features and warranties. We’ve had the system for about 4 years. Never had a problem. Gas and electric bills much lower than before. We are elated with every facet of this choice. A+++
