Frigidaire is a company that makes a little bit of everything, and there’s a good chance you’ve owned an appliance from their arsenal at some point in your lifetime. While they make plenty of stoves, washers, and freezers, they also have an impressive lineup of heating and air products. The company has been helping homeowners stay comfortable indoors for decades, and in our Frigidaire dehumidifier review, we are going to break down their new lineup of machines.

Frigidaire has always done an outstanding job of updating their product lines, so it’s not uncommon to find dozens of appliances on the market at any given time. Their dehumidifier collection is a bit more streamlined than some of their other collections, however, and all their 2020 models conform to the new dehumidifier testing standards set by the DOE.

For this Frigidaire dehumidifier review, we are going to focus on new models from the company, despite the fact there are several older models still available in the wild. That’s because new Frigidaire dehumidifiers are priced in-line or cheaper than the previous models, and some parts for older machines are becoming challenging to find.

Low to Moderate Humidity Frigidaire Dehumidifiers

Frigidaire currently has two dehumidifiers in their collection built to deal with low to moderate humidity. At first glance, both appear to be similar, but there are some crucial differences between the two models aside from their overall capacity.

The Frigidaire FFAD2233W1 is their smallest capacity dehumidifier, with a removal rating of 22 pints per day. It has a 9.1-gallon bucket and can cover an area up to 400 square feet. It has three speeds, like most of the company’s systems, but is the quietest machine on our list with a decibel rating of 43 dB on low. It’s also the most affordable.

As for the Frigidaire FFAD3533W1, it has a higher capacity at 35 pints per day and can handle double the space at 800 square feet. It has a larger 16.9-pint water bucket and is only slightly louder than the company’s new 22-pint dehumidifier. It has a carrying handle on top between a grill and the controls, whereas the FFAD2233W1 has a more streamlined look, but is sans the handle.

The most significant difference between these systems, aside from capacity and coverage, is power. According to the tech specs, the FFAD3533W1 is considerably more powerful at all three speeds. It’s rated at 229 CFM on high compared to the 138 CFM rating on the Frigidaire FFAD223W1. This 35-pint system is comparable to the older, but very popular Frigidaire FAD504DWD.

High Humidity Frigidaire Dehumidifiers

In the high humidity class, there are four new systems, but three are variants of one another. While that’s not very exciting from a technical or design standpoint, this tier has the systems with the most high-tech features.

The most affordable system in this class is the Frigidaire FFAD5033W1. It’s a 50-pint dehumidifier and a machine that the company’s new 50 PPD systems are based on. It’s relatively quiet and has the same design and amount of power as the Frigidaire FFAD3533W1, but is geared for areas up to 1,200 square feet.

On paper, the Frigidaire FFAP5033W1 is essentially the same system with two changes. It has a grey control panel, instead of a black one and an extra button. That button makes a big difference, however, as it’s for the internal pump. The FFAP5033W1 is currently the only high capacity model from Frigidaire with a pump, although it doesn’t have the flagship feature found on our next model.

The last system in the 50-pint class is the Frigidaire Gallery FGAC5044W1. It’s identical to the other machines in this class but comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and a built-in ionizer. The Frigidaire app gives you access to new features while also doubling as a remote control for the dehumidifier

All three of the 50-pint systems have 16.9-pint buckets and a CFM rating of 167, 194, and 229 on low, medium, and high. At this time, the company does not have a true “flagship” model with both Wi-Fi and a pump available. They do have one slightly larger dehumidifier, however.

At the time of this review, the Frigidaire FFAD6022W1 is the highest capacity dehumidifier the company makes under current DOE standards. It’s listed at 60 pints per day and has a big bucket that can hold 21.1 pints of water. The design is a little different, but the features are the same, except for the fact this particular model only has two speeds instead of three.

Older Frigidaire Dehumidifiers

In addition to their new models, the company does have a number of dehumidifiers listed above 60 pints like the Frigidaire FAD704DWD and Frigidaire FFAD7033R1. Both of those models are older and hard to find, although still available through a number of retailers online.  Just remember, the capacity ratings have changed, so those sytems no longer have the same ratings.

In 2020, the top capacity available under the new standards for portable systems is only 55 pints. That means older dehumidifiers that were previously listed at 70 pints are now in the 40 to 45-pint range. A 55-pint dehumidifier by 2020 standards is comparable to a 90-pint machine produced only a few years ago.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier Features

When it comes to features, Frigidaire is in the middle of the pack. Standard features on their dehumidifiers include timers, continuous drainage, and custom humidity control. Their systems will shut themselves off when the bucket gets full, and the filters in their systems are washable.

Spills won’t be a problem with Frigidaire dehumidifiers thanks to the front-loading bucket system and splash guards. A few of their systems have modes like quiet or turbo, but features like Wi-Fi and pumps are rare and only found on two models and the moment.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier Reviews

Given the fact Frigidaire switched their lineup and phased out older systems, there aren’t a wealth of reviews when it comes to the new models. You’ll find thousands of reviews on their older systems, however, with most being positive. Homeowners feel the same way about the new Frigidaire dehumidifiers as well; you’ll just need to look outside of the usual sources for those reviews.

Some of the things consumers liked about dehumidifiers from Frigidaire include the large water buckets and the fact they are quiet for their size. The spill-proof design on the buckets performs as intended, although some folks had trouble emptying the buckets on larger models when full, considering they are a little over 2 gallons.

Frigidaire Dehumidifiers Replacement Parts & Warranties

Warranties are something consumers tend to overlook with certain products, especially if it’s a well-known brand. Well, just because you own an excellent fridge from your favorite company doesn’t mean their microwave or dehumidifier will perform just as well.

Even though most of Frigidaire’s dehumidifiers have positive reviews, they all have short warranties. The company guarantees its products for 1-year, which is on par with GE and Soleus. By comparison, smaller dehumidifier manufactures like Hisense, Danby, and hOmeLabs offer 2-year warranties.

While the short warranty is a bit disappointing given the brand, it’s negated to a degree through their replacement parts program. Browsing the Frigidaire parts section is like taking a trip back in time as they have over 500 models listed. You won’t find parts for every system, but they do cover a lot of ground and have documentation and parts lists online.

With replacement parts pricing, it all comes down to the part you need. Things like caster wheels and replacement filters are cheap. On the other hand, a replacement water bucket for a large dehumidifier will set you back close to a hundred bucks – roughly the same as a humidistat control.

The Pros of Frigidaire Dehumidifiers

Positive reviews from homeowners are definitely a reason to consider a system from Frigidaire, but far from the only one. Their current lineup has a clean, modern design that will look good in any room. Units with big grills in the front have been phased out in favor of sleeker dehumidifiers that stick to the new DOE standards. We also liked the fact that most of their systems have three speeds and are quiet even on high.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier Cons

The downside to purchasing a Frigidaire dehumidifier is the warranty. Other brands also offer 1-year guarantees but are often cheaper from a capacity standpoint than units from Frigidaire. While a minor con, they don’t have much variance between sizes compared to other brands.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier Pricing and Availability

One of the advantages of purchasing an appliance from a big brand is accessibility. While there were a few shops that didn’t have dehumidifiers from Frigidaire, we found their machines available through most major shopping sites online. That includes Amazon, Home Depot, Sylvane, and Target.

As you’d expect, pricing depends on the storefront. With that in mind, the company’s systems are somewhere in the middle on pricing. They are more expensive than budget-friendly brands like Soleus and hOmeLabs, but quite a bit cheaper than brands like DeLonghi, Friedrich, and LG.

Frigidaire Dehumidifier FAQ

Q: What size dehumidifier should I buy for my home?

A: That’s an important question, and not one that’s easy to answer because of the variety of factors involved. If you need help finding the right size dehumidifier for your home, check out our dehumidifier sizing guide.

Q: Will Frigidaire have any new dehumidifiers rated at above 50 pints per day?

A: In the portable class, that’s highly unlikely considering the new standards top out at 55 PPD. Whole house dehumidifiers range between 70 to 170 PPD, however.

Q: What’s the lowest temperature range for Frigidaire’s new dehumidifier range?

A: According to their listings, the company’s current lineup will work down to 41°F.

Q: Can I purchase a dehumidifier direct from Frigidaire instead of going through another company?

A: At this time, no. The company will show you where to purchase specific models through their website, but you can’t buy them directly.

Q: Will I need help setting up or moving a high capacity dehumidifier from Frigidaire?

A: These types of systems are built with ease of use in mind. There are only a few parts to snap together, and caster wheels ensure even larger dehumidifiers are a simple to move.
