The average cost of a Goodman air conditioner is $3,350 to $5,200 installed, based on size, efficiency and performance.
Goodman air conditioner prices are among the most competitive in the HVAC industry. The brand began in the 1970s as a low-cost leader. Years later, Goodman is owned by Daikin, but it remains a value brand – good equipment at a reasonable cost with a good warranty.
What’s In This Goodman Air Conditioner Price Guide?
Goodman Equipment & Installation Price Table
Goodman has pared down its AC lineup to just five units, among the fewest of the major brands. Compare that with 9 for Trane, 11 for Rheem and 17 from Carrier/Bryant. However, the models cover the efficiency and performance range pretty well.
Here are Goodman air conditioner prices for the equipment – condensing unit, coil, and refrigerant lines.
|Model||Top SEER||Performance||Equipment Cost||Total Price|
|GSXC18||19||2-stage||$2,300 - $3,925||$3,585 - $6,825|
|GSXC16||17||2-stage||$2,050 - $3,600||$3,335 - $6,400|
|GSX16||16||Single-stage||$1,785 - $2,750||$2,985 - $5,575|
|GSX14||15||Single-stage||$1,690 - $2,635||$2,890 - $5,460|
|GSX13||14||Single-stage||$1,565 - $2,515||$2,765 - $5,340|
Goodman Air Conditioner Cost Factors
According to our table, Goodman air conditioner price ranges from about $2,800 to almost $7,000 for an installed AC.
These factors account for the differences.
The outdoor unit is called the air conditioner condensing unit. For each model, there are condensing units from 24,000 to 60,000 BTUs, also called 2 tons to 5 tons of cooling power.
The system needs a matched indoor coil and refrigerant line set in terms of the volume of refrigerant they can accommodate.
For any model, the larger the system size, the higher the cost.
Goodman offers 2-stage and single-stage compressors. A two-stage model runs at low capacity, about 65%, most of the time. It only runs at 100% capacity when you change the thermostat setting by several degrees or the outdoor temperature is rising quickly. A single-stage compressor runs at 100% whenever on.
The advantage of a two-stage compressor is better efficiency, dehumidification and temperature balance. The downside is higher cost than models with a single-stage compressor. More information about their differences, check Single Stage vs. Two-Stage vs. Variable Speed For AC.
As you can see, Goodman air conditioners range from 14 to 19 SEER. Efficiency is generally related to compressor performance.
The higher the SEER or seasonal energy efficiency rating/ratio, the less energy the system uses to deliver cool air. Efficient units cost more, but in warm climates, they pay for themselves through lower energy costs.
ComfortBridge Communicating Technology
Communicating HVAC systems are a two-way street. The thermostat controls the AC and furnace, but those two components also give data feedback to the ComfortBridge thermostat that it uses to tweak system performance.
The ComfortBridge control, still called ComfortNet in some Goodman literature, and technology is an upgrade of $1,000 to $1,400.
Other Thermostat Options
You don’t have to use a Goodman thermostat. In fact, unless you’re upgrading the performance of your HVAC system from, for example, a single-stage to a two-stage unit, you might not have to switch thermostats.
However, if you do have to change it out, Goodman makes two other thermostats. Both are touchscreen, full-color display digital thermostats. One is WiFi; one isn’t.
You can also use a smart thermostat like lux geo, Honeywell Lyric, nest and ecobee models. We’ve reviewed all those brands. A good place to start is the PickHVAC Thermostat Reviews with links to our reviews of popular brands.
Installation Cost Factors
We’ve covered the basic equipment costs. Now, what about installation labor charges? What’s the difference between $1,200 and $2,900 for AC installation?
Here are the cost factors related to installation:
Job difficulty: These factors cause installation costs to rise:
- Placing the condensing unit on a roof instead of the ground
- Having to install a pad for the condensing unit.
- Having to install the indoor coil in an air handler/furnace in an attic or crawlspace
Time of Installation: If you have an AC installed in the hottest stretch of summer, don’t expect any deals on installation cost. However, if you buy a Goodman air conditioner in the late winter or mid-autumn, you’ll likely get lower estimates from Goodman AC contractors.
Cost of Living: Higher costs in large metro areas, especially those along the coasts, affect the cost of every consumer good. Unfortunately, central air conditioners aren’t exempt.
Ductwork Condition: Older ducts often develop gaps and/or are not properly insulated. To repair and insulate ducts costs up to $4.00 per linear foot.
When ducts have to be replaced due to their condition or being the wrong size for the new system, cost is $10 to $18 per linear foot.

Extras and Their Costs
So far, the basics have been covered.
However, some homeowners accessorize their HVAC system to improve indoor air quality. We recommend considering an accessory if:
Breathing Issues: Anyone in your home has significant allergies.
Tight construction: Your home has house wrap (most newer homes do, and homes that have had the siding replaced in the last 10-15 years), so the envelope is tight. The problem with these energy-efficient homes is that there is no air exchange, so indoor air becomes polluted.
Goodman has its own brand, called Clean Comfort.
Here’s an overview of the “indoor air essentials” the brand produces.
Table of Options and Prices
|Cabinet Filters||$375 - $500|
|Electronic Filters||$550 - $750|
|Humidifiers||$600 - $2,000|
|Dehumidifiers||$950 - $1,700|
|UV Air Cleaners||$400 - $625|
|ERV & HRV Ventilators||$2,800 - $6,000|
|Duct Repair||$2.00 - $4.00 per foot|
|Duct Replacement||$10 - $18 per foot|
Filtration: Your options are:
- Media filters in cabinets – These pleated filters are available in several cabinet styles depending on how air flows through your HVAC system (side return, bottom return, etc.). MERV 11 & 13 filters are available.
- True HEPA cabinet filters that offer the best air cleaning, removing 99.97% of particles down to .3 microns.
- Electronic air cleaners with 4 stages of filtering including media, activated carbon and electronic cleaning. The last cleaning type means that the unit charges interior filters, and the negative charges attract and collect very small particles down to .1 microns.
Humidification: Evaporative and steam air humidifiers are produced. Evaporative models cost less and are suitable for most homes up to 3,500 square feet or so. Steam humidifiers probably produce too much moisture for homes that size, but are great for very large homes.
Dehumidification: In climates that are humid all year, a dehumidifier comes in handy. In spring and fall, when you don’t want cooler air, just drier air, they do the job.
Purification: These are UV air cleaners. They use a UV germicidal bulb to kill bacteria and mold spores. UV cleaners come in two types.
- Coil cleaners are placed above the indoor coil, the most likely place for mold to develop.
- UV air cleaners are placed in ductwork to clean the air passing through the ducts. In our opinion, a coil cleaner is the better option. You shouldn’t have mold in your ductwork. If you do, contact an HVAC company to find the cause of the issue and present you with solutions.
Ventilation: As we mentioned, homes with a tight envelope need fresh air. A whole-house ventilator can provide it. Goodman makes a heat recovery ventilator (HRV) for cold climates and an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) for other climates. Both exchange polluted indoor air for fresh outside air without mixing the airflow.
Rebates on Goodman Air Conditioners
The best place to find rebates on Goodman air conditioners is from your local energy company.
But Goodman will help you find them, either on its site or through a local Goodman dealer.
If you want to view them on the site, select the Goodman Rebate Center page using this link or by selecting the blue Rebates & Incentives button on any product page.
At the Rebate Center, you can type on your Zip Code to see specific rebates in your area.
For example, currently in the Phoenix, AZ area, rebates include:
- $250 – $500 rebates on a Goodman GSXC18 and GSXC16 air conditioners
The amount of the rebate varies from company to company. And the rebate offered by any energy provider varies by AC size. For example, one AZ power company offers $75 per AC ton. A 2-ton, 24,000 BTU AC would have a $150 rebate, for example, and the installation of a 5-ton unit would qualify for a $375 rebate.

Goodman AC FAQs
Here are questions consumers are asking – and their answers.
Q: What has changed since Daikin bought Goodman?
A: We’ve watched this closely since 2012 when Daikin bought Goodman and Amana.
- Goodman’s quality has improved.
- Cost has gone up slightly more than most brands, but Goodman remains the value leader with low-cost, good-quality equipment.
- Warranties are still among the best in the industry, but not quite as good as they were.
- Internet sales policy – see next FAQ
Q: I see Goodman ACs sold online. Can I buy one and have a local HVAC dealer install it?
A: More Goodman HVAC equipment is sold online than all other major brands combined.
Goodman has changed its policy on this matter. Warranties for ACs and other equipment sold online were once voided.
Now, Goodman says, “No warranty coverage is offered on Goodman brand equipment purchased by consumers over the Internet…unless the unit is installed by a dealer adhering to all applicable federal, state, and local codes, policies, and licensing requirements.”
Warning! Make sure to find a licensed AC technician willing to install it. Most won’t install equipment they didn’t sell.
Q: How long are Goodman warranties? Any special perks?
A: 10 years, and yes.
The general parts warranty for all models is 10 years.
The GSXC18 and GSXC16 also have a Lifetime compressor warranty.
But here’s something to consider. NO HVAC warranty covers labor costs except in the first few years in rare cases. Let’s say your Goodman AC compressor fails in 15 years. The part will be covered by the Lifetime warranty. But the labor cost will not, and it will be $700-$1,100 in today’s dollars. So, that money will probably be better spent on a new central air conditioner. This means that the Lifetime warranties are meaningless in those circumstances.
We’ve done a “deep dive” on warranties in the PickHVAC Warranty Guide and Myths Debunked.
Q: Is financing available on Goodman air conditioners?
A: Yes. Goodman offers financing on all its equipment through GreenSky Trade Credit. You can learn more on the Goodman site or through your local Goodman dealer.
