Ruud Gas Furnace Buying Guide – Prices, Reviews and Tax Credits

Note: Before you dive into the specific brand review, we highly recommend you to read our elaborate Gas Furnace Buying Guide in advance, there are several crucial steps you need to take before you even start to think about the brand.

Ruud gas furnaces are a common brand in America with several high-quality gas furnaces. The Ruud gas furnaces are nearly the same as Rheem in features and color. This is because Rheem is the parent company of Ruud. The major differences in these gas furnaces are maybe the name of the unit and the number models. There are no major differences in design. These two companies produce high-quality gas furnaces. However, their websites are very slow and difficult to navigate.
Ruud does offer high-end gas furnaces making it a great pick in the search of a gas furnace. The Ruud and Rheem parts are interchangeable.

Unique Features in the Ruud Gas Furnaces

  • Plus one water management system that allows the unit to detect any drains problems and shut the unit. The patented drain sensor helps protect the unit from any damage in case of drainage blockage.
  • The Econet feature allows the Ruud gas furnaces to communicate with various parts for efficient operation.
  • Two-stage gas furnaces that allow for two firing rates. This feature is available in a few selected models. The two-stage are used for very cold days and mild cold days.
  • The heat exchanger that is the most crucial part of the gas furnace is made of stainless steel aluminum. This feature makes the unit reliable and durable. Most Ruud units have inshot burners that allow for direct ignition.
  • Ruud gas furnaces have diagnostic abilities that allow the furnaces to self-diagnose and detect problems. This allows for troubleshooting of the gas furnaces and solving the problem.

The Ruud Company produces three levels of gas furnaces that fit all the classes of consumers. The Achiever Series is the economy model with the efficiency ranging from 80% to 95%. The next model is the ACHIEVER PLUS SERIES furnaces that have the efficiency of up to 97%. The high-efficiency models are called the ULTRA SERIES that have over 97% AFUE ratings.

Model U97V (from Ultra Series) is the high-end of all the product line with all the bells and whistles. We advise homeowners not forget to buy extended labor warranty when considering high-end models. In most cases, the labor fee for high-end series will skyrocket.

U96V is our recommended model with two-stage heating and variable speed blower. Both are practical without any bells and whistles. If you didn’t have enough budget or plan to move house in the future, R96P and R96P are good temporary options. We didn’t recommend any kind of 80% AFUE gas furnaces (like R802P and R801T) no matter what features it has. 20% heating loss is huge. Even you want to sell your house immediately, the buyer will take heating efficiency into consideration when bidding.

I am nothing short of satisfied. Ever since I purchased this unit that is six years ago. My initial unit kept on leaking water making my house messy and one had to be alert always. I always called the technician to do repairs who later on recommended to me the Ruud unit. It’s highly efficient without too much cost of electricity. Its price was also quite affordable. Its installation was quite easy. Winters are no longer stressful for us. Ruud has been the furnace I’ve come across so far.
$3,900 ULTRA SERIES Seattle 3000 sqft
My Ruud furnace is installed in the basement of the house. It is however too noisy and sounds more like a manufacturing room. When purchasing the sales representative assured me that the unit wasn’t any noise. So I thought this was enough reason to raise alarm. On calling the customer care service, they told me otherwise, that this was a usual occurrence. I still have to bear with the noise because I’m not in a position to purchase another right now.
$2,500 ACHIEVER SERIES Farmington, MN N/A
The most unreliable furnace I’ve ever come across. It has failed me in over three winters in which we literary froze. The first failure came when the circuit board had issues. The repairman has already had frequent visits to my house more than the mailman and pizza delivery man comes. I would have rather kept my old furnace instead of getting this Ruud which has been nothing short of a nuisance and less performance. I’m quite sure when replacing it I will not have Ruud among my options.
$2,350 R92P Montana 2800 sqft
I’ve owned my furnace for 8 years and I believe I’m still counting. I have never encountered any issues with the machine and I tend to think or negative reviews are all propaganda either by competitors whose intention is to bring down its reputation. Its price is also quite affordable in comparison with other heat furnaces of the same specifications and lower specifications across different brands. I can never compare this to my initial Amana heat furnace which was serviced as frequently as every two months and would definitely recommend this heat furnace to anyone looking to purchase a furnace anytime soon.
$2,200 RGLS New York 1900 sqft
Just replaced my old Trane furnace, the price is reasonable compared to my previous old Trane. So far so good.
$2,800 ULTRA SERIES Chicago 2300 sqft
I had my Ruud ultra R802 installed when I moved into my new house which was in 2008. Ever since I have only had one repair to the igniter. I think this is just a normal occurrence considering that its working machinery all the time and it can never lack minor malfunctions like the igniter failure. I would then recommend the furnace to anyone and reinstate my statement that minor failures in a machinery is quite usual and frequent servicing is quite essential by an experienced and knowledgeable technician. The service that Ruud has given me is very satisfactory and I can recommend it to any one else.
