Ducane Gas Furnace Prices, Reviews and Buying Guide

Note: Before you dive into the specific brand review, we highly recommend you to read our elaborate Gas Furnace Buying Guide in advance. There are several crucial steps you need to take before you even start to think about the brand.

Ducane is a heating and air conditioning brand manufactured and sold in North America. Originally founded as the Ducane Brothers Metal Fabricating company in Union City, New Jersey in 1946, the company relocated to Little Ferry three years later where they began manufacturing warm air furnaces.

Today, currently operating as a subsidiary of Lennox, Ducane manufactures heating and air conditioning equipment, including gas furnaces, oil furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, packaged units, air handlers and coils. Ducane’s line of HVAC products and equipment is considered by many to be a cost effective alternative to more prominent brands, such as their parent company, Lennox.

Ducane’s lineup of gas furnaces features eight models split up into two series: 90+% AFUE and 80% AFUE. The three models under the 80% AFUE banner all carry that same annual fuel utilization efficiency rating, while the higher efficiency models in the remaining series feature AFUE ratings ranging from 92% to 95%, with four being certified Energy Star-labeled, confirming that they meet the strict guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Here is a quick navigation of this article:

Ducane Features Analysis

– Low Cost

Ducane gas furnaces offer consumers a more affordable option to many of the furnace brands on the market today. Though they don’t feature some of the features that other furnaces do, the stripped down nature of Ducane gas furnaces means they’re the perfect choice for those looking for a short-term solution as opposed to a long-term commitment.

– ECM Variable Speed Blower

Ducane’s high-efficiency gas furnace models feature an ECM variable speed blower that helps to create even temperatures throughout your home. The ECM, or electronically commutated motor, also reduces the overall electrical consumption of the system making it an efficient and effective component. It also has the added benefit of controlling humidity especially well and will keep temperatures steady throughout the year or while in use.

– Two-Stage Gas Valve

Though Ducane does not offer a modulating gas furnace, their highest AFUE rated furnace features a two-stage gas valve. While it doesn’t modulate to provide the most consistent and even heating possible of other furnaces on the market, the AFUE rating is remarkably high for a two-stage system. This two-stage system makes operation much quieter in comparison to a single-stage unit and adjusts fuel usage based on heating demand so that it’s always working in the most efficient way possible. It also allows the furnace to run continuously for longer, meaning more air has a chance to pass through the filter to be cleaned, removing impurities and potential allergens that can potentially make your indoor environment unpleasant.

Model Recommendation

When you’re looking for the most cost-effective Ducane model, the strategy is to find the balance between furnace cost and energy costs. Let’s use the zone map to identify efficiency levels for each that strike that balance:

We purchased this unit back in 2014. It was a replacement to our previous gas furnace, which we had been using for more than twenty years. This unit is noticeably quiet and provides a cool and comfortable environment. With this unit, our energy costs are notably lower and so is the energy consumption. The variable quality allows it to run slowly with enough heat. This one is clearly among the best.

When my old furnace needed replacement in the fall of 2013, I was quite sure that I was going to buy the same brand yet again. I had lived in the house for more than twenty years and never had to repair the Ducane Gas Furnace. It heats our home in a short time and has significantly lowered our gas and energy bills. I’ve had no issues with it but I’ve had it checked and serviced every year to ensure that it continues to deliver optimally.

My last furnace died down in last year’s winter and I wanted something better. I did a quick internet search and was impressed by the reviews on Ducane Gas Furnaces. I immediately purchased the furnace and had it installed. So far, I’m so impressed with this furnace. It heats quickly, runs well, and has saved me quite some amount of energy bill in comparison to my old one. If I were to make another purchase, I would still go for Ducane.

This unit is horrible! I had two of the Ducane units installed at both sides of my home less than four years ago. Both models freeze regularly and bring water in my home. I live in Arizona where we experience a lot of dust and so their filters require replacement in every three to four weeks. They are also noisy and I haven’t noticed any difference in the temperature of my home. It is a total waste of money.

I am so angry at my husband for purchasing this model. The power vent motor in this furnace died in less than a year of use and three months later I was required to change the ignitor and gas valve. It seems like everything is wrong with this Ducane. It vibrates and sounds like a train when on. When I called the technician about the issues, they said that it was normal and I had no cause for alarm. This Ducane unit is so bad I don’t even know what more to say.

The Ducane gas furnace has been working perfectly ever since we bought it. It is very quiet and efficient. My wife and I totally love it. We got a 96% efficiency model which is mighty quieter and warmer than any other furnace I’ve ever used. I rarely need to replace the filters and have had no repairs since I purchased it. I’m soon moving out of the house and I can’t help but envy the next owner. I plan on buying the same brand and model in my next house.
